| Class "A" |
| Class A is the simplest and most basic
topology, the amplifier operate in the linear region for 360° of
the AV input waveform (i.e.....the output device (s) are always in
conduction). |
| Advantages |
| Very Low Distortion no crossover
distortion exist |
| Disadvantages |
| Quiescent power dissipation is very
high resulting in poor efficiency, and Maximum power is limited due
to the constant current stage, reducing dynamic range |
| Conclusions and
comments |
| Class A is often used as a bench mark
to whish amplifiers are referenced for sonic quality, and only
applies to esoteric, hi-end designs where poor efficiency and cost
are not a factors. |
