Techniques
have
centered around linear or switch mode power supplies.
Linear are heavier, and less efficient than switchers but
they are overall less expensive and less complex and offer
better EMI/RFI* specifications.
Many significant
changes in technology have resulted in lower cost per watt
switch mode power converters.
Designers have used these recent technological advances
to reduce size and weight of power packages.
This presentation
provides an overview of the most commonly used topologies and
list their most important features.
*EMI = Electro
Magnetic Interference.
*RFI = Radio
Frequency Interference.
